Souderton-Telford Main Streets is a Pennsylvania Main Street program dedicated to the revitalization of both Souderton and Telford. A volunteer-driven organization, STMS has a Board of Directors, Executive Board and three committees, Design, Promotions and Economic Restructuring.

The staff consists of Nationally Certified Main Streets Manager, Pam Coleman, and office manager, Erika Pipe. The Main Streets office is located at 18 Green Street, Souderton. The office hours are 9:30 am until 5 pm, Monday through Thursday, and from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm on Fridays.

Visitors are welcome to stop in during business hours or later by appointment.

The idea of Souderton-Telford Main Streets began about 2000 when both communities were encouraged to do a joint planning effort for economic revitalization by Montgomery County Planning Commission. The resulting plan can be found below. This plan defined short-, medium- and long-term goals for both communities. It identified the Pennsylvania Main Street program as a source for funding for a staff and for projects. Souderton-Telford Community Development Corporation was incorporated in 2002.

The initial Board came together to lay the groundwork for a Main Streets program. They developed a vision, a mission statement, a five year plan, annual work plans and budgets. They conducted a fundraising campaign for the required local match and both borough Councils committed a generous allocation of funds.

The first three years, Pam Learned and her company, Wordwork, supplied the part-time administrative support to the Board and committees while the organization waited for state recognition and funding.

Pam Coleman was hired in March of 2006 as the full-time manager. Souderton resident, Erika Pipe came on board as the office manager in 2008. STMS was recognized as a PA Main Street program March of 2006. STMS has been designated a National Certified Main Street Program by the National Trust for Historic Preservation's National Main Street Center for the past four years.

As you browse through the website, you find photos and descriptions of the major projects that this organization has undergone.

They helped Souderton Borough develop a streetscape look for Main Street that is unlike any other municipality in the area. The partnered with Indian Valley Arts Foundation, the Borough of Souderton and Montgomery County on a new parking lot, pocket park and Souderton's newest art installation.

They worked closely with Telford Borough to create a town center at the Marketplace at Telford Station. The Design Committee developed the original plan for lot and buildings. The Economic Restructuring Committee recruited the businesses and the Promotions Committee runs the annual Indian Valley Farmers’ Market. This project has won awards and recognition at the county, regional and state levels as an outstanding example of community partnerships revitalizing a small community.

Beyond these very visible and permanent activities, they have spent countless hours reviewing and commenting on zoning ordinance changes, analyzing and compiling marketing data and creating this website.

You will see their faces throughout this site. This is truly a volunteer-driven organization. Without the laughter and elbow grease supplied by your friends and neighbors, none of the amazing things you find on this site would be possible.

Would you like to join us in this rewarding endeavor?
