On Wednesday, February 17 at 7:30, Montgomery Theater will present a reading of the new play “Six Nights in the Black Belt” by Lowell Williams. Based on a true story and set in the spring of 1965, the play follows two Boston seminary students who join Martin Luther King on the march from Selma to Montgomery. Article from Phillyburbs.com.
One of these students, Jonathan Daniels, stays on during that warm summer. Slowly he gains the confidence of a young Stokely Carhmicheal and others working to secure civil rights for African-Americans in those Alabama communities. A threat of violence surrounds them, and will ultimately affect the course of both students’ lives.
Williams says of his play: “This true story reveals the path Jonathan Daniels discovered to his service and how his legacy inspired others.”
Actors will be arriving from New York, Boston and Providence to take part in this rare reading, in honor of Black History Month. The actors will be available following the performance for a question and answer session with all audience members.
Located in a former firehouse, the Montgomery Theater brings amazing shows with equity actors to an intimate setting in downtown Souderton.
Expect to be surprised, enchanted, challenged and addicted to this amazing line up of shows each season.
