Ribbon Cuttings

The Ecomonic Restructuring Committee and staff work with new business owners to create a photo opportunity with the local press. The business owner supplies information that is turned into a press release.

On the day of the ribbon-cutting, the business owner and a team of their staff and/or family, the respective mayor and a representative from the Indina Valley Chamber of Commerce and STMS volunteers all pose for a photo. The Economic Restrucuting Committee purchased giant scissors that really work.

The Souderton Indpendent and The Reporter have been good about running the photos. It is a good way to let the local cstomers know that another new business has opened in Souderton or Telford.

According to Wikkipedia, in sports, the term "trifecta" used in sports to describe scoring three points at one time (e.g. hat-trick), or succeeding at anything three times in three consecutive attempts, such as in cricket. In Telford, it is used to describe three businesses openings so closely timed that all three businesses held a ribbon cutting on the same date.

lombardoThe team of local officals and STMS volunteers began at Trattoria Lombardo on Reliance Road  to help owner/chef Hector to cut the first ribbon. Hector and his business partner have reopened Trattoria Lombardo with a new menu and staff.

They specialize in Italian specialties with a focus on homemade pasta and mozzerella cheese. They also make all the deserts on site. The first reaction after a dinner here is to plan for a return trip.

Chris McCarthy from Univest, Mark Fournier from Telford Borough, Stan Nyce and Carolyn Crouthamel from Telford Borough Council, Pam Coleman from STMS, Sharon Minninger from IV Chamber of Commerce and Greg McGovern of Edward Jones all treked to pose with the happy business owners. dd2

Everyone hopped in their cars and headed down Third Street to the Marketplace at Telford Station. The next stop was at the Freight Building to slice a ribbon at Double Dipper 2.  Owners Allison and Glen Garis were happy to do the honors with the big scissors.

With Leiby's Ice Cream, water ice, hot dogs and pork barbeque on the menu, this new ice cream stand is scooping up fans daily. Whether you want a shake or a sundae or just a cone, they  have a personal trifecta of price, portion and product.

bellasLast, but not least, Bella's Italian Kitchen has been open for a few months but the warm weather had reminded everyone of the charm of outdoor dining at the Train Station. Owner Ricky Franco is serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with many new menu items and a few favorites from Assou.  Anyone want those amazing potatos with their pannini?

Many thanks to Photographer Ken  and the Souderton Independent for snapping photos and publishing them soon.

Some things just seem to fit together naturally. Chocolate and peanut butter, tea and scones and Curves and Generations. curves_ribbon_cutting

Last summer at the Health Fair for the Moyer 5K Race, Douglas Eschbach, Executive Director of the Generations of Indian Valley and Bev Leatherman, owner of the local Curves fitness center were located in booths next to one another.

During an afternoon of conversation, Doug noted that he dreamed of a fitness center at Generations for their members. Unfortunately, the cost of equipment and staffing was prohibitive. Bev shared with him her desire to relocate to a smaller location with more foot traffic. The rest is history.

Story from Souderton Independent.

Curves fitness center is now located in the Generations facility on Second Street in Souderton. Although they are still open to their traditional customers of women, they provide the members of Generations a convenient location for exercise.
